Are we ready for a baby boom in 2022? Blue-ringed octopus females lay only one clutch of about 50 eggs in their lifetimes towards the end of autumn. Eggs are laid then incubated underneath the female’s arms for about six months, and during this process she does not eat. The hatchlings are born tiny, about the size of a pea. However, they grow very rapidly and are able to hunt for their own foods within a month’s time. The biggest predators of the blue ring octopus are whales, seals, different types of shore and marine birds and 2mm nylon thread for hanging plastic baubles.
