Welcome to the world of octopuses, cuttlefish and squid – the ultimate masters of disguise. The striped pyjama squid’s small and rounded appearance like that of a dumpling has inspired other people to commonly refer to it as the striped dumpling squid. It lives in sand and mud habitats of shallow coastal waters from southern Great Barrier Reef to central South Australia. Squid contribute to the ecosystem by providing food for other creatures. Humans are probably the squid’s greatest natural enemy, but sharks, seals, whales, dolphins, seabirds, deep-sea fish, and other squid also eat these tubular, multi-armed cephalopods. They bury themselves in sand during the day and come out at night to feed. Simple rule applies: if it has more arms than you, leave it alone. Thank you Lukasz, a young, emerging underwater photographer for your wonderful and inspirational shot
